Jayalalithaa slams hike in petrol price
Jayalalithaa said people had not "overcome" from the upward revision earlier this month and termed Friday's hike as "unfair".

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa Friday slammed the revision of petrol price by Rs 1.63 and said this would further burden the people suffering from the recent hike of the fuel price.

She said people had not "overcome" from the upward revision earlier this month and termed Friday's hike as "unfair".

She slammed the oil marketing companies saying that while they import crude and refine it to be sold as petrol, "it is unfair that they increase the price of petrol in domestic market citing global trends".

"Further, with Iran selling oil for Indian rupee, raising the price citing Indian rupee depreciation against the US dollar amounts to fooling the people," she said in a statement.

Motorists from middle and lower classes would be affected due to the hike and the move would only result in further inflation and price rise, she said.

"Therefore, considering the welfare of the people and the nation, I request rollback of today's hike besides cancelling deregulation of oil prices," she said.
