Girish Chandra Yadav of BJP has won from Jaunpur, constituency No.366 of Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly leaving behind INC's Nadeem Javed.
Jaunpur is a Muslim dominated constituency.
The main candidates from Jaunpur seat were Dinesh Tandan, Girish Chandra Yadav, Nadeem Javed and Sunil Kumar Singh.
In the 2012 Assembly elections, the Congress won this constituency by a slim margin of just 1,239 votes. Nadeem Javed, the winning Congress candidate, got 50,863 votes. Tejbahadur Maurya of BSP, the nearest contender, got 49,624 votes. The voter turnout was 55.16 %.
Elections to 403 seats of Uttar Pradesh were held over 7 phases from February 4 to March 8.
Exit polls had predicted the BJP emerging first in Uttar Pradesh with the Samajwadi Party-Congress alliance emerging second and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party emerging a distant third.
