Maoist leader Ganesh VK reportedly masterminded the operation in which 76 security personnel were killed.

Raipur: A massive manhunt has been launched for the alleged mastermind of the deadliest Maoist attack on security forces.

Security forces and intelligence agencies claim that Maoist leader Ganesh VK masterminded the brutal operation in which 76 security personnel were killed in an ambush near Chintalnar village in Sukma block of Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday morning.

Ganesh had publicly pledged to take on the Government some time ago.

"We will try to form a parallel government from the 500 to 3000 people ready to form the gram sabha," Ganesh had reportedly said in 2006.

According to reports Ganesh is a CPI(Maoist) Politburo member and is originally from Andhra Pradesh but operates in Chhattisgarh.

Ganesh is not only the area commander of the Maoists in the Dantewada region, but he also trains and commands the People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA).

The PLGA reportedly did not plan the ambush against the CRPF team in advance. It was planned on the spot.

The Maoists planned the ambush after the CRPF personnel went into the area and were involved in area domination. The security personnel stayed in the region for four days.

It was after observing the CRPF team for sometime, the Maoists made them their target and made the plan. They asked for reinforcement from other areas and the attack was carried out by 300-400 Maoists, who encircled the entire CRPF team and started shooting at them.

Meanwhile, two live pressure bombs were recovered from the ambush site in Chintalnar on Thursday morning.

Bomb disposal squads have been sent to the spot to defuse the bombs.

Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said that a committee has been formed to enquire into Naxal ambush of security forces in Dantewada.

"We have taken a decision to form a committee to look into what went wrong at Dantewada. Something went wrong at Chhattisgarh but what went wrong needs to be found out. A committee has been formed which will give its report in a very short time span, accordingly we will act," Chidambaram said in New Delhi on Thursday.

Ministry of Home Affairs role is to assist the states in Naxal-affected areas. Ministry of Home Affairs will provide paramilitary forces to states to assist the local machinery to free the Naxal-affected areas," said Chidambaram.

He also said that the rebels have been procuring arms from the Indo-Nepal border and Myanmar.

"Naxals procure arms from arms bazaar across the border. They loot arms when they attack the security camps, police stations. Arms bazaars are there at Indo-Nepal border which is an open border, Indo-Myanmar border and these are known facts," he added.

Chidambaram also regretted that India did not have the capacity to produce mine protected vehicles that's needed in Maoist-infested areas.

On Wednesday night, about 36 hours after the Maoist ambush of a CRPF team, the rebels launched another attack on the security forces.

The attack was launched at the CRPF camp at Pallampalli, not very far from Chintalnar. The Maoists fled after engaging the CRPF team in a gunbattle for a few hours. No casualties were reported.
