New Delhi: Special cabinet meeting of Kerala government over Mullaperiyar Dam issue is over. The state government has summoned special assembly session on December 9 to discuss the controversial matter.
It was said that the decision will be taken after consultation with the Opposition.
"We hope that by calling a special session we can show the world that all sections in Kerala are united, and can impress upon others, the state's open mind. The opposition too shares the same view," Kerala CM Oomen Chandy said.
"The strikes (across Kerala) should not be emotional and people should observe restraint. Our stance in this issue has widely been recognised," he said.
Earlier, MPs from Kerala continued their protest over the Mullaperiyar Dam issue in Parliament premises on Wednesday, demanding that a new structure be built to replace the existing one.
Holding placards, various MPs from different political parties including the ruling Congress sat on a peaceful dharna before the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, claiming that the lives of 30 lakh people were endangered.
