Kolkata: The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPM) challenged the West Bengal government to take disciplinary action against the government employees who did not report for work on Tuesday during the nationwide strike called by central trade unions.
The Mamata Banerjee-led government earlier issued circular prohibiting state employees from taking leave on the day of strike and also warned of disciplinary action, including break-in-service, against those who remained absent on the day.
"Since the strike has been successful, she (Banerjee) will now start a witch-hunt against those who did not report for duty today. I challenge her to take action against them and then she will get to know the repercussions," Leader of Opposition and CPM heavyweight Surjya Kanta Mishra said in Kolkata.
He said if the employees are faced with any disciplinary action, the party will fight the legal battle for them.
