Congress Thanks SC For Saving Democracy, Says Guv Vala Gave BJP Time To Break Parties
Accusing the BJP of changing the rules according to their own interests, Azad said that in Manipur, Meghalaya, the BJP violated democratic norms of the country and formed the government.

Bengaluru: Just after the Supreme Court on Friday ordered for a floor test in Karnataka on Saturday, senior Congress leader on Friday thanked the court for ‘saving democracy’. Azad also teared into Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala for deliberately giving the BJP 15 days to prove majority so that the latter could break the Congress and the JD(S).

“No governor in the history of the India has given two weeks’ time to prove majority. I was also given a week’s time when I was CM of Jammu &Kashmir and and in some cases 2-3 days were given, but this time, 15 days was given only to break the parties. I would, hence, like to thank the Supreme Court for saving democracy and rising to the occasion. Detailing on the procedure that was followed to stake claim to forming the government in Karnataka, Azad said that the coalition gave a list of 117 MLAs to the governor and staked claim to the government “much before the BJP did.”

“We told the governor that we can prove a majority right now but the governor invited the BJP to form government without even checking if they have the numbers,” Azad told a press conference here.

Accusing the BJP of changing the rules according to their own interests, Azad said that in Manipur, Meghalaya, the BJP violated democratic norms of the country and formed the government. “We were they the single largest party and the BJP still formed the government in coalition. We assumed that the rule would apply in Karnataka too. But that’s not what happened,” he said.
