New Delhi: With trends projecting a defeat for Congress in Delhi Assembly elections, Ajay Maken on Tuesday resigned from the post of General Secretary taking responsibility for the party's debacle in Delhi polls.
He said, "I have not right to stay on this position and should resign from my post."
"I was the face of the Congress in Delhi elections. Since the party has not fared well, I take moral responsibility and am quitting as Congress general secretary," Maken added, who was the chairman of the Congress Campaign Committee in Delhi.
The former minister in the Union and Delhi governments was contesting from Sadar Bazar constituency.
"I congratulate Arvind Kejriwal and his party for massive victory in Delhi. Wish him all the best for the future!," he said in tweet.
Congress had won 8 seats in the last Assembly polls in Delhi held in 2013 which threw a hung verdict.
