India head coach Rahul Dravid was overjoyed after his team bounced back to clinch the Ranchi Test inside four days.

Known for his calm and measured celebrations, India head coach Rahul Dravid let himself loose in a rare display of emotions after his team’s nail-biting win over England in the Ranchi Test on Monday. Chasing 192, India slipped from 84/1 to 120/5 on a challenging pitch before Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel guided them over the line with an unbeaten partnership of 72 runs for the sixth wicket.

The moment Jurel took the winning double and gave India an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-Test series, Dravid stood up in the dressing room, all pumped up. And then proceeded to greet the two youngsters who showed immense maturity and grit to guide India out of trouble.

Resuming their chase on 40/0 on Monday morning, at one stage, the contest seemed headed India’s way with captain Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring at a quick pace. The opening pair added 84 runs before Joe Root struck for England to give them an opening.

Rohit peeled off a half-century before falling to Tom Hartley and then Shoaib Bashir gave India a mighty scare by ensnaring Rajat Patidar for a duck before accounting for Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan in consecutive deliveries after the lunch break.

“It’s been a very hard-fought series, so to come on the right side of it feels very good. A lot of challenges thrown at us but we responded and were quite composed. These (youngsters) guys want to be here, growing up in the domestic circuit, local club-cricket, and coming here,” said Rohit in the post match presentation.

It was then that Gill was joined by Jurel, playing in just his 2nd Test, and the rest as they say is history.

Rohit was all praise for the youngsters stepping up in the absence of senior players during the Test series.

These (youngsters) guys want to be here, growing up in the domestic circuit, local club-cricket, and coming here,” Rohit said after the match.

“Jurel showed composure, calmness and shots all round the wicket. His first-innings 90 was crucial, and again in the second innings along with Gill. It’s always not pleasing when you miss key players, but there’s nothing we can do as a group. To fill their shoes was not easy, but they responded really well. When you make a mark like that, you hold yourself in a good position for a long career. This will motivate them,” he added.
