PM Modi Launches Crash Courses Aimed at Training 1 Lakh COVID-19 Frontline Workers
The government claims that the course is designed by experts with a financial outlay of Rs 276 crore. The programme will create skilled non-medical healthcare workers to help fight against COVID-19.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched the ‘Customized Crash Course programme for Covid 19 Frontline workers’. The course in its first phase will train 1 lakh people to aide front workers in the fight against covid-19. In his virtual address, Modi said, “The next step of the battle against Covid is beginning today.”

The course be offered through 111 training centers spread over 26 states. It will have six different modules which will train learners for six different roles including homecare support, basic-care support, advanced care support, emergency care support, sample collection support, and medical equipment support.

The programme is being offered under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0. The government claims that the course is designed by experts with a financial outlay of Rs 276 crore. It is the first phase of the programme and it will be available to other job roles in future phases.

The programme will create skilled non-medical healthcare workers to fill the present and future needs of manpower in the health sector.

“COVID era has re-emphasized the importance of skilling, reskilling, and upskilling,” said the Prime Minister. He said when the pandemic hit India many skilled healthcare workers had to re-skill themselves to fight against the COVID-19. With the advancement in technologies, learning new skills on the job is becoming more critical, said PM.

The course will be six months in duration and those skilled through these customized, job-specific skilling programmes will “take the load off doctors” and join the healthcare workforce.

Through the initiative, youth will be upskilled and join the workforce. This will bost the healthcare system as well as offer employment, said Modi during his address via video conferencing.
