Delhi Police has issued an extensive advisory ahead of the massive New Year celebrations in the national capital. The restrictions listed in the advisory will take effect from 8 pm on December 31, New Year’s eve.

The advisory had also laid out a key focus on Connaught Place (CP), considering the footfall it witnesses every year during New Year.

Special CP Traffic, SS Yadav, while addressing a press conference noted that special arrangements and deployment have been made in view of the celebrations. Delhi Traffic Police will deploy 250 teams — including 2,500 personnel — on duty. These teams will be tasked with checking drunk driving cases on New Year’s eve.

More than 10,000 police personnel will be deployed on ground to keep a check on traffic violation during New Year celebrations across the city. Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) Joy Tirkey said, “We have prepared two different shifts for deployment. First shift will start from 5 pm to midnight. Another shift will be from 12 am to 6 am.”

SS Yadav said that forces will be deployed at:

1. Connaught Place

2. India Gate

3. Aerocity

4. Qutub Minar

5. Greater Kailash

6. Saket Mall

7. Netaji Subhash Place

8. Mukherjee Nagar area

9. Vasant Kunj Mall

10. EDM Mall

11. Pacific Mall

12. Champa Gali

13. Hudson Lane

14. Hauz Khas

The advisory has said that no vehicular movement will be allowed in the inner, middle or outer circle of CP except for those with valid access. Yadav had noted that traffic in CP will controlled after 8 pm.

Traffic Movement Restrictions

No vehicles will be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place:

  • Beyond Mandi House roundabout
  • Bengali Market roundabout
  • North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover (Barakhamba Road – Tolstoy Marg Crossing)
  • Minto Road – Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg crossing
  • Chelmsford Road
  • Near Munje Chowk (New Delhi railway station)
  • RK Ashram Marg – Chitragupta Marg crossing
  • Gole Market roundabout
  • New Delhi GPO roundabout
  • Patel Chowk
  • Kasturba Gandhi Road – Ferozshah Road crossing
  • Jai Singh Road – Bangla Sahib Lane
  • Panchkuian Road – Bangla Sahib Lane
  • Windsor place roundabou- Buta Singh Marg roundabout
  • State Entry Road – New Delhi railway station

Parking Arrangements

Commuters are allowed to park their vehicles in the following places in CP’s neighbourhood:

  • Near Gole Dak Khana on Kali Bari Marg
  • Pt. Pant Marg
  • Bhai Veer Singh Marg
  • Near Patek Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind All India Radio (AIR)
  • Mandi House on Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House
  • Minto Road on Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg & Press Road area
  • Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg
  • Chitragupta Road and Basant Road towards Paharganj
  • KG Marg – Freozshah Road Crossing on Copernicus Lane
  • KG Marg towards C Hexagon

Other than these areas, parking will also be allowed:

  • Near Bengali Market roundabout on Babar Road and Tansen Marg
  • Windsor Place on Rajender Prasad Road and Raisina Road
  • Gole Market at Peshwa Road
  • Service Road along Bhai Veer Singh Marg & RK Ashram Road
  • Near Buta Singh roundabout on Jantar Mantar Road & Raisina Road

The advisory informed the public that only limited parking space will be available near CP, that too, on a first come first serve basis. It also warned them that vehicles in the no-parking zones will be towed away, an NDTV report said.

Routes to Avoid

Following are the routes that the commuters should avoid during New Year celebrations:

  • Najafgarh Road
  • Outer Ring Road from Janak Puri to Peeragarh Chowk
  • Press Enclave Road Saket towards Ring Road
  • Firoz Gandhi Marg, Veer Savarkar Marg towards Lajpat Nagar central market
  • Bhisham Pitamah Marg towards New Delhi from Andrews Ganj
  • Lodhi Road towards Ring Road AIIMS
  • Nelson Mandela Road towards Gurugram
  • Ring Road between Moti Bagh and Safdarjung Hospital route

Suggested Routes for Delhiites

The advisory also gives a detailed list of routes that can be taken up by commuters to reach their desired destination for their parties and celebrations:

  • Ring Road from ISBT towards Ashram or Delhi Gate
  • Bahardur Shah Zafar Magr
  • Mathura Road towards Ashram and vice-versa
  • Rani Jhansi Marg
  • Panchkuian Road
  • Mandir Marg
  • Park Street
  • Mother Teresa Crescent Road
  • Bhairon Road
  • Mathura Road
  • Subramaniam Bharti Marg
  • R/A R.M.L
  • Shankar Road

How to Reach New Delhi Railway Station?

Commuters can take the alternative routes made for them to reach the New Delhi railway station, however, routes to the Old Delhi railway station will remain unchanged. People can take these routes to NDLS:

  • Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street
  • Mandir Marg
  • Rani Jhansi Road
  • Jhandewalan roundabout
  • Deshbandhu Gupta road
  • Windsor Place roundabout
  • Ferozeshah Road
  • Mandi House
  • ‘W’ point
  • ‘A’ Point
  • DDU Marg
  • BHAV Bhuti Marg
  • Second entry gate of Ajmeri Gate

Commuters have been advised to note that there will be heavy traffic at Vasant Kunj’s Ambience Mall due to the celebrations, adding that the Huaz Khas village area will also be abuzz with people.

Similarly, heavy traffic checkpoints will be in place near Aerocity in view of the New Year celebration at various places within the vicinity. Additionally, areas around the GK-1 Market will also witness traffic snarls.
