New Zealand registered an emphatic 149-run win over Afghanistan on Wednesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in their ICC ODI World Cup 2023 encounter.

The Kiwis made 288 runs for the loss of 6 wickets batting first in 50 overs and managed to bundle out Afghanistan for a paltry total of 139 runs in 34.4 overs.

Highest Run Getters:

Kiwi opener Devon Conway climbed to the top of the run-scorers list at the ongoing World Cup with his 20-run knock against Afghanistan, as he took his total to 249 runs in the campaign.

Mohammad Rizwan, who has 248 runs to his name in the tournament, slid to second after having occupied the No.1 position for a couple of days before Conway inched past the Pakistani player.

South African opener Quinton de Kock stands third on the list with 229 runs against his name, followed by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who has scored 217 runs so far in the Blue Ribbon event.

Another Kiwi, Rachin Ravindra broke into the top 5 of the run-getters tally with his cumulative score at the event of 215 runs, thanks to his 32-run stand on Wednesday.

Highest Wicket takers:

The Kiwis rule the roost in both rankings as Mitchell Santner rose to the top of the wicket-takers table with 11 wickets in the tournament following his three-wicket haul against Afghanistan.

Compatriot Matt Henry, who picked up the opening wicket against Afghanistan, comes in second with 9 wickets to his name.

Indian pacer par excellence Jasprit Bumrah stands third with 8 wickets at the home tournament, followed by Dutchman Bas de Leede on 7 wickets, as the Netherlands registered a huge upset win over South Africa on Tuesday.

Pakistan’s Hasan Ali, who also has 7 wickets at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, rounds off the top 5 wicket takers at the ongoing event.

Team India take on Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday in the upcoming fixture of the ICC showpiece.
