A Lufthansa airline Munich-Bangkok flight, LH 772, landed in Delhi after diversion on Wednesday. While official statement on the diversion is awaited, sources said an argument between a couple on flight is the likely reason.

An argument between a couple led to the diversion of the Munich-Bangkok Lufthansa flight to Delhi on Wednesday following which they were deboarded, news agency PTI quoted official sources as saying.

The Lufthansa flight landed at 10:26 am at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport after the pilots contacted the ATC informing them about a “situation and possible unruly passenger”.

According to the PTI report, an  argument between a couple — German man and his Thai wife — led to some problem on board the Lufthansa flight following which it sought permission to land at IGI and this was allowed, the sources said. An official said the wife had first complained about her husband’s behaviour to the pilot, saying she was being “threatened” by him and sought intervention.

CISF security personnel, flight crew and other staff are said to have spoken to the couple in the terminal area after they were disembarked from the flight. The flight was to take off again in some time, sources said.

This is the latest in the series of incidents of unruly passengers on flight. Last month, Delhi Police registered a case against a man travelling on an Air India flight AI 102 from New York to Delhi for allegedly abusing a female crew member and creating chaos on the flight.

The case was registered on October 1 after a complaint was lodged by the victim at Delhi’s IGI Airport Police station.

As per an ANI report, the officials said that the case was registered against the passenger, identified as Abhinav Sharma from Punjab’s Jalandhar for using abusive language towards a female cabin crew and creating a ruckus on the flight.

As per the cabin crew’s complaint, the victim was working in the Economy class cabin when one passenger on the flight started making vulgar comments and abusing the passengers on-board. After some time, the accused started running around and abusing everyone in the flight. Following this incident, the cabin supervisor gave him an oral warning followed by a written warning
