Karthikeyan Murali Becomes 3rd Indian to Beat Magnus Carlsen in Classical Chess

Karthikeyan Murali became the third Indian player to beat Magnus Carlsen in classical chess. The 24-year-old Indian managed to topple defeat the World number one with black pieces in the seventh round of the ongoing Qatar Masters tournament.

Murali is the third Indian after Harikrishna and Viswanathan Anand to have beaten Carlsen.

Karthikeyan’s win took his joint-lead with India’s SL Narayan and Arjun Erigaisi along with Javokhir Sindarov, David Paravyan and Nodirbek Yakubboev, with the score of 5.5 out of 7.
