Not just women but every section of society voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Madhya Pradesh, said Shivraj Singh Chouhan in an exclusive conversation with CNN-News18 on Sunday after a stunning electoral victory.
“The unprecedented love and affection we received from the people made me confident that the BJP would retain power in the state with a huge majority. The people have unfathomable faith in and admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The work done by the double-engine government and the turnaround brought in the state by our administration in the last 20 years won the public’s trust. Schemes like Ladli Behna received the people’s blessings," he said.
The Congress tried to hype up the issue of anti-incumbency in Madhya Pradesh when in reality there were pro-incumbency sentiments, said Chouhan.
Issues like caste survey don’t work in India because “everyone is the progeny of Bharatmata", he maintained. “The Congress tried to use a ploy to divide the people to gain votes but the public foiled such attempts," said Chouhan. However, when asked whether he was not in favour of a caste survey in MP, the BJP leader said he would adhere to the party line.
Chouhan also expressed confidence that the BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi would win all 29 Lok Sabha seats of MP in the 2024 general elections and form the government at the Centre with a huge majority.
Asked whether he was set to retain the chief minister’s chair after leading the party to a remarkable electoral triumph in Madhya Pradesh, Chouhan was tactful in his response. “The Bharatiya Janata Party will decide this," he said. “I’m just a humble worker of the party. And in the BJP, it’s not the worker but the party that decides what needs to happen and when."
