Ashoka University has announced the launch of its ‘Ashoka Horizons’ certificate micro course, which seeks to empower high school students (classes 9-12) from India and throughout the world. With guidance from top academics from across the world and business professionals, the ‘Ashoka Horizons’ programme provides students with a special chance to take innovative micro courses.

The following courses are being offered by the programme for the December–January session: Measuring the Unmeasurable, Writing & Communication: Crafting Your Story for Success, Political Science & International Relations: War, Peace, and Drones, Literature: The World of Romeo & Juliet and Our Past Through Biomolecules. These micro courses will support high school students’ college applications and help them develop belief in their future academic and professional choices.

The certificate courses are intended for deeper study of a variety of disciplines sush as Entrepreneurship, Astrophysics, Media Studies, Philosophy, History, among others. In addition to a project module to provide students with practical experience, they will be taught in live, interactive sessions that go beyond the traditional textbook-only model.

Vice President (External Engagement) Ali Imran of Ashoka University discussed the programme and shared that students enrolling will have the opportunity to delve deeper into subjects, talents, or hobbies, strengthening their beliefs and developing richer profiles for improved college admission outcomes. The courses are taught by internationally renowned faculty members and professionals in the field.

“Based on extensive research amongst students, parents and educators, these 16-hour courses are designed keeping the needs and time schedules of high schoolers in mind,” he added.

The programmes have been designed with the limitations faced by high school students in consideration. Each course will last around sixteen hours, with four hours of live, interactive instruction each week (two hours on Saturdays and Sundays). The courses will be provided to the students all year round. Furthermore, for the vast majority of courses, self-study is anticipated to take no more than 5 hours during the course’s full duration.
