A 32-year-old man was killed and another injured after a portion of a dilapidated house located in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur area collapsed on Wednesday evening, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Vinay aka Bijjali, a labourer, they said.

Nathu (30), another labourer, injured in the incident has been admitted to the hospital, said a police officer, adding the two labourers were pulling down the house without following the proper safety measures.

An official of the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said that they received a call of the incident from Gurudwara Road in Kotla Mubarakpur around 5.02 pm.

At least seven fire tenders pressed into service, he added.

The official said the trapped people were brought out from the debris with the help of the locals and police, and taken to the hospital.

“During inquiry, it was found that the house was under dilapidated condition and the three labourers were razing the structure,” another police officer said.

One of the labourer, identified as Anand, had gone to buy tea when the wall collapsed, he said.

The officer said that Vinay, a native of Bihar’s Samastipur, is survived by his wife and three children.

Nathu, a native of Uttar Pradesh’s Banda, is recuperating in the hospital, he added.

A case under sections 288 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down or repairing buildings) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is being registered against the owner of the house, the officer said.
