How Mahadev App Founders Earned Lakhs of Rupees Per Panel Through WhatsApp Groups & Call Centres

Even as Enforcement Directorate (ED) continues its investigation in the Mahadev Book app case, more details on the modus operandi of operators are being disclosed.

The ED has found that the founders of Mahadev Book app, Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, were earning Rs 30-40 lakh per panel per month, and the number of active panel was more than 2,000.

These panels were also being operated in Punjab and Dehradun, where people from Chhattisgarh were being employed, the probe found out.

The operations were designed in a pyramid-like fashion based on a multi-level marketing model where players were managed by “panels or branches”.

The task of collecting of money, creation of user ID, distribution of credentials and money to the customer was done by the panel/branch owners.

These panel and branches were sold by Chandrakar and Uppal like a small franchise but they kept nearly 70-80% of the profit of the operations.

Some panel operators admitted before the ED that lately the panels are being given for operation after a deposit of Rs 15 lakh. A panel has an owner and workers, usually four; one person can own multiple panels.

How Do Panels Operate?

A well-trained workforce is employed to manage betting operations, most of whom are from Bhilai in Chhattisgarh.

This workforce is colloquially referred to as “checkers” because their main responsibility is to monitor the accounting of the betting panels and identify any defaulting ones.

These checkers work in a 12-hour shift to oversee the panel’s operations. To house this workforce, several villas have been leased or rented. The workers live together in a shared accommodation, where groceries and other necessities are regularly delivered to them.

The ED also found grocery bills in the name of these villas from one panel operator Sandeep Singh alias Sunny. These villas were also mentioned in the wedding guest list of Chandrakar.

How Do Call Centres & WhatsApp Groups by Panel Operators Work?

The ED investigation has established that the main promoters of these apps are abroad. Initially, they moved to the UAE, but are now suspected to be in Sri Lanka, Australia, London and Caribbean.

The main call centre employing around 1,000 WhatsApp users is running from the UAE.

The names of the WhatsApp group include Mahadev123 Deposit, Mahadev123 Withdraw.

The first group is to be contacted for depositing money and collecting points in IDs in order to make bets, while the second one is for contacting the website to encash the accumulated points in the designated IDs.
