Emraan Hashmi is known as a serial kisser of Bollywood. This is because he created his niche in the industry through his kissing scenes. Whether it was Murder, Ghanchakkar, Gangster, Emraan Hashmi soon attained the tag of ‘serial kisser of Bollywood’. However, now the actor wants to do away with that image, as said by himself during a recent interaction.
While speaking with the Indian Express, Emraan Hashmi explained, “Then lies an eternal trap for all actors where if you are playing a commercial lead, you will be trapped by a certain archetype of a character or a hero. And here it was this, whatever you call it (serial kisser), it was an absurd name. It was actually given to myself as a joke but stuck with people for some reason. It stuck with the journalists and the audience and it’s not like I didn’t benefit from it. Films were doing really well at the box office.”
He added, “At one point I felt that it had played its part and I was ready to move on before it was rejected badly. You can’t serve the same dish to people time and again. You have to do something different.”
Emraan Hashmi recently joined the YRF Spy Universe through his role in the Salman Khan-starrer Tiger 3. In a recent interview, when asked about navigating through a star-studded film that includes names like Katrina Kaif, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, Emraan said that he was never “insecure of not getting my place in the sun”. However, he did admit to briefly considering turning down the role when it was first offered to him.
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Emraan said, “There was never a time when I felt insecure of not getting my place in the sun. Aditya Chopra told me that we will reveal you at a time when it’s right.” The actor mentioned that the decision to not promote his name during the film’s production was intentional, as the makers aimed to preserve a level of secrecy surrounding his character.
Emraan Hashmi recalled that his initial reaction when he received the offer was to decline it, considering Tiger is Salman Khan’s franchise. However, he changed his mind when he heard the script. He mentioned, “When I was told that I am being considered for the antagonist in Tiger, there was a fleeting thought that [said] no. Because it’s Salman and it’s Tiger and it’s his brand. But that was only for a fraction of a second. When Maneesh narrated the script and told me about Aatish, I was like this guy is so interesting,” he said.
On the work front, after Tiger 3, Emraan Hashmi is set to play the antagonist in Pawan Kalyan’s Telugu film OG, along with The Last Ride, Ground Zero, Sab First Class and Father’s Day. Additionally, Emraan will also be seen in a web series titled, Showtime.
