Animal Box Office Collection Day 5: Ranbir Kapoor starrer Animal is unstoppable at the box office. The film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, released in cinemas on December 1 and has been ruling the box office ever since. After recording an impressive opening weekend collection of Rs 201.76 cr, Animal is performing well during the weekdays as well. The film passed the Monday test with a collection of Rs 43.96 cr, and it is now reported that Animal witnessed just a little drop on Tuesday, collecting Rs 38.25 cr.
According to Sacnilk.com, Animal has witnessed a massive footfall on Tuesday as well. The film had an occupancy of 42.51% for the Hindi version of the film. It is reported that the highest occupancy is from NCR (59.75%), followed by Pune (53%) and Mumbai (43.50%). As of day 5, Animal has collected Rs 283.74 cr in India alone. This makes Animal Ranbir Kapoor’s second highest India grosser movie.
The film has already beaten the lifetime collections of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, which was released earlier this year. The Luv Ranjan movie collected Rs 149.05 crore, as per Bollywood Hungama. Ranbir’s biggest hit continues to be Sanju, which had collected a lifetime business of Rs 342.53 crore.
Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father, including gun down 200 people with machine gun. However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father (played by Anil Kapoor). His unhealthy relationship with his father impacts his relationship with his wife (played by Rashmika Mandanna).
Although Animal is doing phenomenal business, it has been hit by controversy. The film has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users. With scenes like Ranbir asking Triptii Dimri to lick his shoe, making a controversial statement about pads and going naked for the camera, Animal has been the subject of debate since its release. Ranbir Kapoor is yet to comment on the reactions the film has been receiving.
