Zayn Malik and his share of high-profile relationships have always been a topic of interest among fans. From getting engaged to Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards to his on-and-off romance with model Gigi Hadid, the One Direction singer’s dating history has always managed to grab the spotlight. After remaining silent on his relationships for a long time, Zayn Malik has finally opened up about his previous relationships. In a recent interview, Malik made a rare comment about Gigi Hadid and even admitted to experimenting with dating apps.
Ahead of the release of his new record, Zayn Malik spoke to Nylon and shared that while he was making marriage plans a few years ago, he is now “happily single.”
Speaking about his engagement to the Little Mix singer, Zayn said, “From 17 to 21, I was in a relationship. I was engaged and was planning to get married, and I didn’t know anything about anything at that point. I thought I did because I was 21. I was legally allowed to do everything, but I didn’t know s–t.”
He also explained how it was all a new and exciting experience for him as he “never had a girlfriend growing up” because of his parents. “When I got the chance to do that, I jumped straight in, two feet first, and was like, ‘I’m going to have a girlfriend, and she’s going to live with me. This makes me a grown man,” he added.
Later in the conversation, Zayn also mentioned Gigi Hadid and said, “From 21 to 27, I was with Gi, and we had a kid. I didn’t really take much time to get to know myself.”
Recalling his dating history, the Love Like This singer shared that he feels “really content and happy with being single for the first time in his life,” further admitting switching to dating apps for a while. “It’s not been too successful for me, I’ll be honest. Everyone accused me of catfishing. They’re like, ‘What are you using Zayn Malik’s pictures for?’ I’ve been kicked off once or twice,” he said.
For the unversed, Malik started dating Edwards in 2011 and they got engaged in 2013. However, it was ultimately called off in August 2015. Later in the same year, he started dating Hadid. They also share a daughter, Khai. After being together for years, they called it quits in 2021.
