When 3 Bollywood Films, With The Same Title Karz, Failed At The Box Office
The first film titled Karz starred Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Simi Garewal, Raj Kiran, Pran, Pinchoo Kapoor, and Mac Mohan.

A number of films in Bollywood share the same title, even though they differ in the content and cast. They often belong to different genres or are remakes of other films. Today, we will talk about three such Bollywood films which share the same title. What’s more shocking is that all three faced the same fate at the box-office. These three films share the title Karz. As the reports say, all 3 films failed to leave an impact at the box-office. The title of Karz was first used by Subhash Ghai in 1980. The film starred Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Simi Garewal, Raj Kiran, Pran, Pinchoo Kapoor, and Mac Mohan. Produced by Akhtar Farooqui, and Jagjit Khurana, the film is reported to be made in a budget of Rs 1 crore, and failed to perform at the box-office. It gave superhit songs like Om Shanti Om and Dard-E-Dil, which were composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. The duo was given the Filmfare Best Music Director Award. The film’s lead Rishi Kapoor mentioned its failure in his biography titled Khullam Khulla.

Decades later, in 2002, another version of the same title was released, Karz: The Burden of Truth. It was directed by Harry Baweja and starred Sunny Deol, Shilpla Shetty and Suniel Shetty in the lead roles. Made on a budget of Rs 11 crore, the film could barely surpass it at the box-office and proved to be a failure. It was produced by Kaushal Godha, under the banners of Aashna Arts, and Jyoti Pictures. Sanjeev Darshan gave the music in the film.

In 2008, a remake of the 1980 film Karz was made after 28 years of its release, which was titled Karzzz. Directed by Satish Kaushik, the cast of the film included Himesh Reshammiya. He made his Bollywood debut with this film alongside Urmila Matondkar, Shweta Kumar, Danny Denzongpa, and Gulshan Grover. Himesh Reshammiya also composed the film’s music. Produced by Bhushan Kumar, under the banner of T-series, the film was made with a reported budget of Rs 24 crore, but failed to impress the audience and turned out to be a box-office failure.
