Actor Vijay Raaz, who was initially cast in a significant role for the upcoming film ‘Son of Sardaar 2’, reportedly found himself removed from the project on the very first day of shooting, as per a report by Pinkvilla. The incident has sparked a controversy, with producer Kumar Mangat Pathak claiming that Raaz was let go due to his on-set behavior, which included demands for larger rooms, a premium vanity van, and allegedly overcharging for spot boys.
When approached by Hindustan Times for his side of the story, Vijay Raaz refuted the claims, labeling them as “lies.” He emphasized that all logistical arrangements, including accommodations and amenities, were discussed and agreed upon well before he even set foot on the set in Scotland. “It’s all a lie. All these discussions are done before the actor reaches the set. Them mentioning it now in itself means there is something fishy. All this was decided, which is why I went all the way to Scotland for the film’s shoot,” Raaz stated.
He further explained that his request for a larger room was made due to the need for space to practice yoga, a routine he follows regularly. “I told them that my room is congested; I do yoga so I need some space apart from the bed,” he clarified. According to Raaz, the production team initially appeared accommodating, but things took an unexpected turn the next morning.
“Everything seemed fine the next morning when I was informed that my shoot would begin in the next four hours,” Raaz recounted. However, just 30 minutes later, he was abruptly asked to leave the set. “I told them ‘aapne bulaya tha, ab aap yeh keh rahe hain’. I can’t force someone to keep me on; I’m not a junior artist. I’ve been working for decades,” he asserted.
Raaz speculated that his removal might be related to him not properly greeting the film’s lead actor, Ajay Devgn. He suggested that a misunderstanding or offense may have occurred, leading to the sudden change in the producer’s behavior, “Samajh mein toh yahi aa raha hai. I was standing with people at one place, and saw Ajay ji talking to someone. I thought I would go and meet him, it was his scene being shot. Kumar Mangat ji’s behaviour until that point was different. Aadhe ghante baad kya ho gaya. Kuchh toh hua hoga na? Aisa kya badal gaya?,” he shared with the publication.
Kumar Mangat Pathak had earlier confirmed Raaz’s departure from the film, citing the actor’s “behavior on the sets” as the reason. Pathak claimed that Raaz had made excessive demands, including a premium suite and higher-than-usual payments for his spot boy, which allegedly disrupted the budget for the shoot in the UK.
Son Of Sardaar 2 will be directed by Vijay Kumar Arora and comes nearly 12 years after the original. The first film featured Ajay Devgn trying to win Sonakshi Sinha’s hand in marriage by trying to impress her older brother, played by Sanjay Dutt. However, as per reports, Sonakshi Sinha will not be a part of the sequel. A release date for the film is yet to be decided.
