She added that during the scene, Shah Rukh was protecting her from getting hurt and in the process, he got hurt.
Describing Shah Rukh as a ‘very sensitive’ man, Mita told The Lallantop, “He put his hand behind me head to protect me, that’s how sensitive he is… But he got injured himself. He got a cut on his head, and the whole unit was concerned, but he said, ‘It’s okay, don’t worry about it, get some ice’.” Mita said that the fight was supposed to have a sexual undercurrent to it. She added Mani Ratnam wanted their bodies to be ‘intertwined’, like a lioness and lion.

At the time, Shah Rukh had his back against the crowd. Confused with his gesture, she asked SRK why he wasn’t facing the fans. He said the crowd was a problem. He then gave her a glimpse of what he meant. He turned towards the crowd and showed his face, and the crowd erupted, which would have affected the shoot.
Dil Se was released in 1998. The film was celebrated at film festivals but did not impress critics in India. The film also did not perform well at the box office. Besides Shah Rukh and Mita, the film also featured Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta in the lead.
