Malayalam Actor Mukesh Rape Case: Kerala Court Grants Interim Protection from Arrest Until Sept 3
Kerala Court has ordered interim protection from arrest for Malayalam actor Mukesh in a rape case. The actor has been booked for the sexual crime.

Kerala Court has ordered for interim protection from arrest for Malayalam actor Mukesh until September 3. Mukesh, who is also an MLA in Kerala, has been booked in a rape case based on a female actor’s allegations. It is reported that Mukesh has approached Principal Sessions Court in Ernakulam for anticipatory bail and sought interim direction. Court gave interim order that he should not be arrested till September 3.

It is reported that he argued he was being blackmailed by the complainant. He claimed to have evidence of the same and submitted it to the court.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that an FIR has been filed against the actor-MLA. According to Bar and Bench, Mukesh has been booked under Sections 354 (assaulting or using criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (insulting the modesty of a woman with words, sounds, gestures, or objects) of the Indian Penal Code. He had moved to the Ernakulam District and Sessions court wherein he got a protection for five days.

Mukesh isn’t the only one who has come under the scanner. An FIR has been filed against actor Jayasurya, and Edavela Babu as well. The FIR against Jayasurya has reportedly been registered under Section 354 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to intent to outrage a woman’s modesty. The accused have also been charged with sexual and verbal assault.

According to India Today, the actress recorded her statement with the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday night, a day after accusing them in a Facebook post of verbal and physical abuse.

The cases of sexual assault in the Malayalam film industry are being reported ever since the findings of the Justice Hema Committee Report were made public earlier this month. Several actresses have accused male members of the industry of harassing them. So far, 17 cases have been filed. In the wake of the same, Mohanlal also recently resigned as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
