The makers of Lipstick Under My Burkha can’t be happier as the movie has covered its cost of making and promotion ₹6 crores all inclusive in just 4 days of its India release by collecting ₹7.08 crores at the Box Office.
The lead cast of Ratna Pathak Shaw and Konkana Sen Sharma was powerful enough to pull the crowds besides the huge controversy that locked horns between director Alankrita Shrivastava and the Censor Board of Film Certification, given the movie’s bold content that explores women’s sexuality regardless of her age, religion or customs of the Indian society.
The movie opened with a first-rate response (given the limited release) on Friday morning and grossed ₹1.22 crores on Day 1, Saturday and Sunday saw immersive footfall given the metro target audience is best pulled to cineplexes on these two days and the movie fetched ₹2.17 crores and ₹2.41 crores respectively. Monday too was able to pull ₹1.28 crores, slightly more than its Friday collection.
Besides the well known names of Ratna and Konkana, the movie casted Aahana Kumra and Plabita Borthakur in lead roles that bring forward the vagueness the younger generation living in non-metro cities fights with everyday, to pursue what they aspire as well as desire.
Lipstick Under My Burkha had a limited release on just 400 Screens across India and released with Munna Michael, Fidaa and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk . However, the movie has hold its ground and on Day 1 even competed with Munna Michael at a few Metro Multiplexes.
