Imran Khan broke his silence on his divorce for the first time. The Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na actor confirmed he has separated from Avantika Malik and their divorce came through in 2019. The actor further added that he is now dating Lekha Washington. In a new interview, Imran spoke about the divorce and admitted he is furious over the narrative that his current girlfriend was a ‘homewrecker.’ He explained that he fell in love with Lekha during the lockdown, much after his divorce.
Imran Khan married Avantika Malik in 2011. They welcomed their daughter, Imara, in 2014. The couple’s split rumours first emerged in 2019. However, they chose not to address the claims at the time. Now, in a new interview, Imran confirmed the rumours of the split were true.
“I’ve been out of the room for a very long time. In my absence, it has been easy to speak about me,” he told Vogue India as he began speaking about his divorce. “The speculation that I’m romantically involved with Lekha Washington is true. I’m divorced and have been separated since February 2019.”
“There’s this narrative of Lekha being a homewrecker, which infuriates me because not only is it misogynistic but it also takes away my agency as an individual,” he added, before opening up about the timeline of their relationship. “Lekha and I grew close during the lockdown, a year and a half after I had been separated from Avantika and almost a year after she had separated from her partner, not husband as it has been widely reported,” he added.
Imran and Lekha were spotted at a few events in the last year. This includes Aamir Khan’s daughter Ira Khan’s wedding. Imran and Lekha were seen having a ball with Ira and her husband Nupur Shikhare. The couple continues to keep their relationship away from the spotlight.
