Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is one of Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar’s most successful films. Zoya had helmed the film back in 2011 and it emerged as one of the biggest films of the year. ZNMD continues to have a cult following, with many hoping that the cast reunites for a sequel. In a recent chat, Farhan Akhtar gave an update on the sequel.
Farhan told Raj Shamani, “Aapko Zoya Akhtar se poochna chahiye. A 100% I’ll do it. I’ll give my left arm to do it. Hrithik, Katrina, Abhay, everybody has told Zoya to please think of something. In all fairness, she’s hoping for that penny to drop.”
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara revolved around three friends on a road trip, performing daring activities picked by each friend. This included participating in the Tomatina festival, skydiving, scuba diving, and taking part in the running of the bulls. The film was a massive hit. With an ensemble cast including Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif and Kalki Koechlin, the story left a lasting impression on the audiences. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara found its niche audiences for the way it manoeuvred its way by beautifully portraying the subject of adult friendships, love and relationships.
In a previous interview, Farhan shared, “We all want the sequel to happen as it’s a loved film. We are often asked about part two of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara as the audiences have owned the film. We all hope that Zoya will come up with something for the sequel. It’s her brainchild, so we hope.”
Zoya had also previously confirmed that Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol are interested in reuniting for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara 2. “Yes, this (ZNMD 2 discussions) comes up all the time, and everybody is interested.” She added, “That movie meant a lot to us. So, if we find that soul for part two, we will make it. We don’t want to do it just for money. When the audience comes to watch the second part, they will have a certain expectation, and we must give it to them; otherwise, they won’t be happy,” Zoya told ANI.
Excel Entertainment, co-founded by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar, has consistently served the audience with several blockbuster films such as Don, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Chahta Hai, and many more. The theme of self-discovery and compelling storytelling makes ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ a standout in Indian cinema.
