Alia Bhatt Will NOT Star In Disney's Indian Princess Musical, Gurinder Chadha Clarifies 'Alia And I Had...'

Alia Bhatt has been on a roll with back-to-back commercial as well as critical success. From Gangubai Kathiawad to Darlings, Brahmastra to Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, the actress has also managed to create a space for herself amid the international audience with Heart Of Stone. It was earlier reported that the actress, who is also enjoying motherhood with her daughter Raha, might have scored her second international project, an Indian princess musical with Disney that will be helmed by Gurinder Chadha. However, the director has dismissed these rumours.

Taking to her handle on X, formerly Twitter, Gurinder wrote, “This is NOT TRUE. NOT SURE WHERE THIS STARTED. THE SCRIPT IS STILL IN THE WORKS. ALIA AND I HAD A MEETING BOUT ANOTHER PROJECT AND I ATTENDED HER CHARITY GALA RECENTLY.” Check out her post here:

Renowned filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, known for her directorial successes like Bend It Like Beckham and Bride and Prejudice, is currently immersed in the creation of a musical film centred around an Indian princess, a project in collaboration with Disney.

As per a recent report from Mid-Day, Gurinder Chadha has been engaged in ongoing discussions with Alia Bhatt regarding a role in this project. A source from the portal revealed, “The two have been in talks for a while. The final casting will happen only after the script is developed, but Alia is among the top casting choices.” However, Gurinder has now dismissed these rumours with her official statement.

In 2022, Deadline announced that Disney had given the green light to an original musical inspired by a ‘dynamic princess from Indian history.’ The screenplay for this project will be crafted by Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges, with Chadha also taking on the roles of director and producer. However, details regarding the storyline are currently undisclosed.
