Aamir Khan Rejected Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na Sequel Over Jai's Affair With Meghna: 'This Is The Stupidest...'
Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na released in 2008 and followed the journey of two best friends, Jai and Aditi, who date other people before discovering they are meant for each other.

Abbas Tyrewala’s Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008) remains one of the standout films of his career, but what about a sequel? Well, the filmmaker recently spilled the beans about his idea for a follow-up to the beloved Imran Khan-Genelia Deshmukh rom-com. In a fun chat with Cyrus Broacha for his YouTube channel, Abbas shared that Aamir Khan wasn’t exactly thrilled with his pitch, especially when it involved Jai and Aditi parting ways.

Abbas Tyrewala shared a hilarious story about pitching a Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na sequel to Aamir Khan. He recalled how he came up the idea of a sequel. “I don’t know if I am allowed to say this. Mr Aamir Khan is rather sensitive about what should be spoken of and what not but shortly after Jaane Tu, I came up with an idea for the sequel. Even I wasn’t sure if I was joking or not. I took it to Khan saab and I told him that the film starts with Jay and Aditi living separately. They are separated and Jay has an affair with Meghna. Aamir said ‘I don’t care who makes the sequel to Jaane Tu, it will never be you.’ He said this is the stupidest thing.”

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na wasn’t just about Imran Khan and Genelia D’Souza – it boasted a star-studded ensemble! Prateik Babbar, Manjari Fadnis, Murali Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Naseeruddin Shah, Paresh Rawal, and many others brought their A-game to the film. Plus, fans were treated to special appearances by Arbaaz and Sohail Khan, adding an extra dash of fun. Co-produced by Aamir Khan and Mansoor Khan, this movie had a lineup that made it truly unforgettable!

Not long back, in an interview with India Today, Imran Khan shared his thoughts on the prospect of a sequel to the film. The actor said that the 2008 film doesn’t need a sequel as it is not a “plot-driven” movie. “In Jaane Tu, it’s a kind of film where characters’ emotional journeys is the culmination of the plot and because of that, to have a sequel you have to then reopen their emotionality which may or may not work. Sequels generally are for plot-driven films, not character-driven films (sic),” Imran had shared.

While a sequel may not be on the cards, one can watch the full film online on platforms like Netflix.
