Secrets to Make Your High-Street Clothes Look Like Expensive Couture
How do you make your bargain finds look more expensive?

Women want to follow every new trend, must-have designer and all sorts of fabric detailings. But let’s face it! The average woman isn’t going to spend a fortune on a pair of Christian Louboutin boots, no matter how much the fashion magazines crow about their favorites. One of the middle way out when it comes to styling is to make cheap clothes look expensive. Styling is key and these are the tricks we should apply when trying to make high street appear as high end.

1. Get everything tailored

Women are a bit hesitant to have their clothes tailored. Many women believe that tailoring is expensive, however, in our experience, a simple tailoring fix (such as nipping in a waist or letting down a hem) usually costs less and it makes your clothes look like a million bucks.

2. Pay attention to the lining

Look carefully at the lining when buying clothes. On quality items, it’s invisible, neatly done, and doesn’t show from under the clothes. Quality clothes have straight stitches, threads that are exactly the same color as the fabric, and hems with no loose threads.

3. Avoid embellishments and logos

We all love a little sparkle in our lives, but if you’re going for beading and sequins, you risk your clothes looking cheap. Embellishments simply aren’t as lasting trend-wise as a crisp, clean look. Sequins and spangles have the right to exist only in haute couture items, and that’s a rule.

4. Avoid visible zippers

The quality of a garment is often given away by its accessories, and open zippers in cheap clothes are just such indicators. If the zipper is visible, the color of all its parts should be similar to the fabric. Otherwise, when it’s not a design solution, the zipper should be covered.

5. Invest in a steam iron

It’s absolutely crazy how much a piece of clothing can change by just having it ironed, steamed and pressed! Wrinkles make anything expensive look cheap and having cheap stuff pressed instantly looks way more luxurious than it might be. A steamer is usually an easy and cheap investment that will change your closet forever.

6. Choose pointed shoes

Shoes have the power to make or break your first impression. Bright pumps look as pretty in the mass market as they do in luxury brands, while pointed black or nude ones will nicely finish any office image.

7. Don’t abuse decorative elements

Accessories are a great place to allot some of your clothing budget because they can change an entire look. Bu over-do of anything will make you look over the board. No matter how trendy chunky jewellery looks, opt for a small jewel element as it will add to your femininity. Broad patterns and too much lace will dull your outfit instantly.

8. Tuck in your clothes

A tucked shirt makes the image more complete. It’s better to step away from grunge, boho, or hippie styles, and come back to classics, romanticism, or casualness.

Tricks above work well but one should know how to manage your priorities. Its sensible to spend more on the clothes you wear often (jeans, shirts, blouses) than on a fancy evening dress. There’s good reason to give away more money for a high-quality white T-shirt instead of buying five low-quality ones for the same amount.
