In a recent development, popular fashion brand Gap has issued an apology for a commercial that caused a serious uproar in social media. The commercial in consideration +is a part of a broader initiative to promote women empowerment. It depicts four young girls, between the age group of 5-14, who're a part of a traveling circus company Le Petit Cirque in conversation with Ellen De Generes.
While the commercial touted to promote women empowerment, it ended up offending a lot of people on the counts of racism. In the particular image that lead to this uproar, an African-American girl is seen posing next to another girl who is resting her arm on the younger girl's head.
According to a popular media daily, Gap recently issued an apology and have decided to replace the existing image with another one from the same photoshoot.
While bigger brands usually resort to save their reputations when it comes to such incidents, Twiterratis are even quicker to react to such posts. Some of them backlashed at the brand for casting the black child as an 'armrest', still others termed the entire brand as being 'racist'.
The campaign was launched last year for the company's fall collection. It might be removing that one particular image but according to media reports, it doesn't plan to take down the campaign.
