Parasite Actor Lee Sun Kyun Found Dead In Car Amid Drug Case; Suicide Suspected

South Korean actor Lee Sun Kyun found dead in his car on Wednesday, December 27. The actor, best known for his role in Parasite, was allegedly found unresponsive in the car by paramedics in the Seongbuk district of Seoul. South Korean news agencies report that local police suspects suicide. The news of his death comes a day after he was investigated in drug abuse case. He was 48.

Trigger Warning: Several South Korean news agency, including K-pop Herald, confirmed the news Lee Sun Kyun’s death on X. “Actor Lee Sun-kyun has been found dead in a car near a park located in Jongno-gu in Seoul this morning, according to reports. Lee has been facing an investigation over suspected drug use,” the post read.

According to a report by Soompi, the police received a call from a woman who said her husband left the house after writing what seems to be a suicide note. Later, the police confirmed that the man has been identified as Lee Sun Gyun. “His identity has been confirmed,” the police said. The report added that police found evidence of ‘lit charcoal briquettes’ inside Lee Sun Gyun’s car, suggesting that he might have died of suicide.

The news of his death comes a day after Lee Sun Kyun denied conciously consuming hard drugs. In October, Lee Sun Gyun was accused of illegal drug use and was under investigation since. According to JTBC, as reported by Koreaboo, the actor had sat down for investigation and denied conciously taking in hard drugs. “I had taken it through the nose, using a straw, but I thought they were sleeping pills. I did not know that they were drugs,” his statement was reported by the publication.

Lee Sun Kyun had been in the South Korean industry for several years and had starred in numerous projects. While Parasite was one of his biggest films, he also starred in My Mister, Coffee PrinceMy Sweet Seoul, Miss Korea and A Hard Day.
