The Mumbai Police on Saturday wrote to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) requesting the cancellation of Mihir Shah’s license, the prime accused in the Worli hit-and-run case and son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah.
Authorities have recorded statements from 13 individuals, including Mihir’s friends, Juhu bar staff, and an alcohol store owner in Malad. The forensic team has also collected his blood sample for analysis.
Mihir was arrested on Tuesday in Thane district, two days after allegedly ramming his BMW into a two-wheeler, killing Kaveri Nakhwa (45) and injuring her husband Pradeep in the early hours July 7.
Mihir father, Rajesh Shah, is also an accused in the case and currently out on bail.
According to the police, Mihir was “heavily intoxicated,” having consumed “12 pegs of whiskey” at the time of the accident. He was reportedly “well aware” of something “trapped” beneath his car.
Kaveri Nakhwa’s husband Pradeep Nakhwa had accused Mihir of “intentionally” dragging her body and not stopping the car despite repeatedly shouting at him to do so.
After crashing into the couple’s scooter, Mihir was very much aware that the woman was stuck in one of the tyres of the luxury car, but still he drove recklessly and did not stop though motorists passing by frantically signalled and shouted, asking him to halt, an official said.
