The Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu is a famous tourist site for its greenery and beauty. Every year, millions of tourists visit the place to experience the beauty of the Nilgiri Hills. There is one more attraction in this picturesque place. An annual flower exhibition is held during the summer season every year that attracts a large number of tourists. This year, the 126th edition of the Ooty Flower Festival is being held with great pomp and joy at the Government’s Botanical Garden in Udhagamandalam, Ooty. Various species of flowers with beautifully arranged flowerbeds are exhibited in the flower festival. On the occasion of the festival, the botanical garden is adjourned with decorative flowers. The Ooty Flower Festival 2024 is showcasing more than 150 varieties of flowers including Inca Marigold, Dahlia, Daisy, Zinnia, Salvia, Ageratum, Daisy White, Delphinium, and various Anthurium plants, showcased by over 250 exhibitors belonging from different parts of the country.
The Ooty Flower Festival 2024 was kickstarted on May 10 and is set to continue till May 20. The time of the festival is 9 am to 7 pm. The exhibition started with a laser show. A similar laser show will also be held during the closing ceremony.
The Ooty flower festival was first started in the year 1896. The first edition of the exhibition was organised by the Nilgiri Agricultural Society. The annual event acted as a stage to display vibrant flowers, which has now turned into a traditional event for the people of the state. The festival continued for years under the Nilgiris Agricultural Society, but was acquired by the government in the year 1980. As a 100-year celebration in 1996, the government inaugurated a rose garden spread across 4 hectares of area.
The Rose Show, held alongside the Flower Festival is also expected to attract a massive crowd. Around 4200 varieties of rose will be exhibited in the show. Visitors will be able to see a variety of coloured roses from various parts of the country.
