KOCHI: The Kochi Corporation will soon serve notices on the residential complexes that do not have waste treatment units. The decision, according to the authorities, will help Kochi attain the status of the first city in the country to have waste treatment units installed in all apartment blocks.“We will serve notices on those residential complexes which do not install bio bins. The decision comes in the wake of the Kerala High Court’s order to ban disposal of waste in public places. We want to make sure that the ban is properly enforced,” said Kochi Corporation Health Standing Committee chairman T K Ashraf. The corporation in association with the CREDAI Clean City Movement has successfully installed units in 116 apartment complexes. “We have to cover 80 more flat complexes in the city. We will also seek the help of various resident’s associations,” Ashraf said. Recently, the state government had decided to give a minimum subsidy of Rs 15,000 to the residential complexes to install waste treatment units.
