CHENNAI: RMK Engineering College at Kavaraipettai held its 13th graduation day recently. M Narendra, chairman and managing director, Indian Overseas Bank, delivered the convocation address and handed over degree certificates to 862 graduates. He also gave out cash awards worth `19,70,500 to university rank holders and academic prize winners from both Bachelor and Master degree courses. In his speech Narendra urged the students not to be satisfied with the routine nature of life but to go in search of unexplored territory to make their lives meaningful. He advised graduates to remain students all their lives. In the college annual report Principal Elwin Chandra Monie said RMK Engineering College had bagged 61 university ranks (Civil - 7, CSE - 4, EEE -1, ECE - 6, EIE - 9, Mechanical - 3, IT - 5, ME Applied Electronics - 3, ME VLD - 3, ME CSE - 4, ME PDD - 1, MCA - 2, MBA - 13), of which three were gold medals (Aarthi R of ME Applied Electronics, Mannadi Leelasai of ME VLD and Brindha S of ME PDD). In 2011 86 graduates from the college received cash awards worth `19,70,500.In his presidential address R S Munirathinam, founder-chairman, RMK Group of Institutions, thanked the students, faculty and others who had worked to bring excellence to the institution since its establishment 16 years ago. Others of the RMK Group of Institutions who were present on the occasion included vice-chariman R M Kishore, secretary Yalamanchi Pradeep, advisor M S Palanichamy, advisor T Pitchandi, and vice principal K A Mohamed Junaid.
