Amicus curae in the alleged Murthal Gangrape Anupam Gupta said two of the alleged rape victims were relatives of a Governor House employee.

Chandigarh: Two women, who were allegedly gangraped by rioters in Murthal during the Jat quota agitation earlier this year, have recorded their statements.

Amicus curiae Anupam Gupta told the court the two women were relatives of an employee of the Raj Bhavan and that their statements were not made public to protect their identities.

Audio and video recordings of their statements were played out in the judges'chambers as part of an in camera hearing.

The tapes will be handed over to the head of the special investigation team probing the alleged Murthal gangrapes, and a report will be filed by May 30.

Haryana Police were in denial for the first few weeks when newspapers reported that rioters gangraped women travellers at Murthal on February 21 during the Jat quota stir.

The rape probe was ordered by the state government after orders from the high court which took note of newspaper reports alleging sexual assault.
