Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company has announced a 2 hour compulsory load shedding across Chennai from Tuesday. The load shedding will be rotational in all areas from 8 am to 6 pm. There will be no load shedding at night. The state has been facing a shortage of 2000-4000 MW for 2 weeks now.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had written a letter to the PM complaining about the poor performance of national power generating units in the state. A fire in a BHEL unit and lack of natural gas at Neyveli Lignite was leading to low production she said. She also wrote that the center had not taken her demand for more supply from central power grid seriously.
Officials say that the load shedding is likely to be imposed only for December as the generation has started picking up at some of the plants and the situation will be under control soon.
