VIJAYAWADA: The city police busted two cricket betting gangs by arresting 13 persons here on Saturday. The accused were running the cricket betting through cellphones.Disclosing this to newsmen here, deputy police commissioner M Ravindra Naik said the task force and Krishnalanka police raided the house of Morikonapalli Srinivas at Bapanaiah Nagar and arrested eight youngsters, including Srinivas while they were collecting bets on an Indian Premier League match.The other arrested are Tammina Shivaram Murthy of Chalasani Nagar, Panduraju Kamalakar, Tammina Ashok Kumar, Raya Shiva Reddy, Karibaktha Suresh of Ranigari Thota, Ommi Devudu of Bhupesh Gupta Nagar and Battu Shiva Kotaiah of Gowthami Nagar.A sum of Rs 24,000, nine cell phones, 9 SIM cards and a TV were seized in the raid. In another raid, the Payakapuram police nabbed a gang of five youths and recovered Rs 5,800 from them while they were organising cricket betting at an open place. The arrested are Satya Shiva Krishna of Payakapuram, Kuccharlapati Phanindra Varma of Patamata, K Bharadwaj of Auto Nagar, Seelam Bhagya Raj and Koppusetti Venu Madhav of East Godavari district.
