Government has instructed higher education institutes across the country to undertake a one-month program to train students on digital mode of payment, who in turn, would work as volunteers to spread the message.
The institutions will have to provide a compliance report details of the exercise undertaken including documentary evidence including pictures on January 12 when the entire exercise will end.
A detailed action plan in this regard has been issued by the University Grants Commission on the instructions of the Ministry of Human Resource and Development.
In a letter written to all Universities earlier this week, the UGC has asked all heads of institutions to “train their students in various modes of digital payments and encourage them to join in large numbers as volunteers for the campaign.”
In addition, it has been instructed that institutions rope in NSS and NCC units to immediately identify one market /mandi and transform it to a digital market place where all shops and traders shift to digital mode of payment.
As per the schedule laid down by the government, orientation session of the students will be undertaken in classes till 14th of December. For the next five days these students will be trained as volunteers.
These student volunteers for the next six days in turn will be trained to convincing people about digital mode of payment. And finally, for the next three weeks thereafter, these student volunteers will spread out to and reach out to at-least 10 households.
The campaign has been named Vittiya Saksharta Abhiyaan (VISAKA) and HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar is holding a meeting of all state secretaries and vice-chancellors on Thursday to oversee its implementation.
