BANGALORE: Most young revellers may have managed to convince their parents to let them return home late on December 31. But the excitement could be short-lived as Cyclone Thane threatens to play spoilsport. The Meteorological Department has stated that cyclonic storm Thane is likely to move westwards and cross north Tamil Nadu early Friday morning. They added that this would bring moderate to heavy rain/thundershowers at many places over Bangalore Urban. B Putanna, director of the Met Department added that Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Hassan, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Kolar, Chikballapur, Ramanagaram and Tumkur districts could also receive rainfall on account of this.Party planners and hoppers are apprehensive of a damp New Year’s eve. “I have paid nearly Rs 5,000 for an outdoor party. I’m praying that the rains don’t spoil the party,” Rithika, a IT manager said. There are over 50 parties in the city according to a ticketing website and many are in open spaces or make-shift locations.Rajiv, an event manager said make-shift arrangements will not withstand the rains. “We check weather conditions and make arrangements. We hope rains don’t mar the busiest night of the year,” he said.
