New Delhi: A day after the national capital witnessed the hottest day of the season, the met office on Friday forecast that the mercury would soar further and cross 43 degrees Celsius.

Delhi on Friday recorded a minimum of 23.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above average for this time of the season.

"There will be no respite from the scorching heat as the temperature during the day is likely to hover around 43 degrees Celsius," an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

Delhi on Thursday recorded the hottest day of the season with the maximum temperature settling around 42.3 degrees Celsius, six notches above average. The temperature was the highest for April 15 in the past five years.

The weatherman attributed the blazing heat to a lack of any western disturbance.

The increase in temperature shot up the power demand in the capital with several areas suffering due to lack of electricity for hours.

"Due to the unprecedented hot summer, the power demand in the national capital witnessed new highs. In April 2009 the average demand was around 3,100 MW but this year it has reached nearly 3,900 MW," said an official of the Delhi power department.
