Trinamool Congress flays the Left Front government saying the Tata Motors deal lacked transparency.

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress on Friday slammed the Left Front government for refusing to give information regarding its agreement with Tata Motors for the small car project at Singur, saying the deal lacked transparency.

"Under the Right to Information Act we wanted to know among other things how much money the Tatas would pay for setting up the Singur project and what tax benefits the company would get? But the government has refused to give even these basic information," as quoted by PTI, Leader of Opposition Partha Chatterjee told reporters in Kolkata.

"This is surprising. We did not want information regarding design and technology of the car," said Chatterjee.

He also accused the government of not being transparent regarding information about land acquisition at Singur.

Citing a letter purportedly written by managing director of West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation Debasish Som to the Hooghly district authorities on January 9 for payment of 10 per cent money to the post awardees, he said the government had earlier said it had made payments for 960 acre for which consent was received.

"But this letter shows the earlier information was not correct. Our party still stuck to its claim that the government version was not correct," he said.
