BANGALORE: Waste is not waste until wasted. But proper disposal of kitchen waste is a problem faced by many households in the city. Now, imagine this. All kitchen waste being stored in beautiful and pretty terracotta vessels without much hassle and you also need not relegate them under the kitchen sink or in a close cabinet. Storing garbage is no more a tedious task, rather a fancy one with amphi-green terracotta pots, also called compost storage pots.Brought to reality by Poonam Bir Kasturi, these colourful pots convert household waste into useful high quality nutrient manure without any hassle. Working towards making our planet greener and cleaner, Poonam started her initiative more than four years ago and came up with the idea of Daily Dump.It helps people manage their household waste and convert it to useful highquality compost. The Daily Dump products which consist of esthetic terracotta pots are designed to ensure that you compost at home, conveniently and hygienically. All you need to do is dump your kitchen waste in those terracotta pots and nature takes care of the rest.“We work with the organic waste which is produced in every house and we call it ‘the real great material’. It is a natural process and the compost is created as microbes act on the organic material stored inside the vessel. All one needs to do is add dry leaves and coco peat to ensure enough moisture,” said Kasturi the founder of Daily Dump.Poonam says that she wanted to come up with an indigenous solution for waste management and what better way than getting started with terracotta vessels.“India has a rich culture of terracotta which is dying at many places. We came up with terracotta vessels in order to keep the beautiful art alive apart from the fact that it also looks good and serves esthetic purposes,” said Poonam. Moreover, the ecofriendly concept is an open secret as Poonam insists that she wants people to copy and ensure a cleaner city and world altogether.“The response has been terrific and we easily sell over 80 khambas on an average every month. This shows how sensible Bangloreans are towards waste management,” said Poonam. The compost storage pots are available at different outlets of Daily Dump and cost between R1,000 and Rs1,500.User speaks“I have been using the compost storage pots since two years now and it works beautifully. I started using it as I always wanted to do something useful with the household waste and not simply throw it as garbage. These pots work like magic and serve the purpose completely,” said Trupti Godbole, a house-maker and a resident of LB Shastrinagar.Trupti also adds that the pots worked so well that they are being used by over 12 families residing in the apartment.“We have a common waste composting system for out apartment and the maintenance is quite easy. It hardly takes 10 minutes for the huge pot installed for the apartment,” s a i d Trupti.
