KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed M V Shreyams Kumar MLA to surrender the land in his possession within a month. “If not surrendered, the government can take over the land within four months and distribute it to the landless tribal people,” the court said.A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J Chelameswar and Justice Antony Dominic refused Shreyams Kumar’s plea to stay a Single Judge’s order refusing his demand to assign land under the Land Assignment Act. The Single Judge had dismissed a petition filed by Shreyams Kumar seeking issuance of a directive to the state government to consider his application to assign 14.05 acres of land at Sulthan Bathery. However, he approached the Division Bench against the order. “The petitioner is an MLA. He should set an example for others,” the court said.
