KOCHI: The Supreme Court’s decision to allow the export of nearly 1,100 metric tonnes of unused endosulfan while retai ning the ban on its use and production is a welcome move, said environmentalist C R Neelakandan.As for Hindustan Insecticides Ltd (HIL) it is time they diversified, he said.Other countries have started using organic pesticides and biofertilisers.The pesticides banned in the US and the European Union are still being used by us, 67 pesticides are still being sold.Environmentfriendly pesticides have to be produced.The corporate will not stop with this,” he said.“ F o r t h e people of Kasargod there is nothing to be happy about.The victims have to to be rehabilitated,” he said.“As long as endosulfan is not banned in other states, it will be produced.“Moreover, the same product is being sold in different labels which the common man cannot ide tify,” said environmentalist Seetharaman.“Endosulfan will be produced even at HIL. Who is monitoring everything in detail?”, he asked
