Actor Rajat Kaul is currently enjoying the success of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. In the Sanjay Leela Bhansali show, Kaul played the role of Iqbal, Mallaika Jaan’s driver. In the web series, he is in a romantic relationship with Saima, played by Shruti Sharma. Recently, Shruti was talking about their intimate scene in Heeramandi when she revealed that she developed rashes during the shoot. Now, Rajat addressed the incident in an exclusive chat with News18 and said the rashes were caused by spiked hay.
“It is not easy. It’s very prickly actually. Hay is also prickly in itself. I think that came out very nicely. For me, that was very amazing,” he told us. The actor, who was also a part of Special Ops, further shared how they prepared for the intimate scene. He revealed that Bhansali held “immense discussions” and “choreographed” everything before shooting the actual scene.
“We had this whole thing of doing the thing. They were immense discussions. The rehearsals were there. We choreographed it and everything. Then the interactions happened. Once you are in the scene, you have to forget everything. Just go with the flow. I’m sure everybody knows that Sanjay sir always looks at it (a scene) like a moving picture, like a painting. So, the pallu gets stuck and all such things. All these things were giving him a lot of layers in terms of the look of it. This was how we approached it,” he said.
Rajat also shared he was “shaken” after he was approached by Bhansali’s team for Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. “Chavi, who was assisting Shruti Mahajan, who does most of the casting for Mr Bhansali, called me and said that this is a part. I was like, ‘Really?’ I was a little shaken up. Like, oh my God, this is something amazing. We did a couple of tests. Then we did another test. They wanted me to do it differently,” he said.
However, the young actor is proud that the show is getting a positive response from the audience and has become a talking point on social media. “I’m very ecstatic. I can’t stop grinning. It’s amazing. What can I say? It has kind of swept me away because I’ve just spent a decade or so in the setup and to be a part of such a magnum opus show, I think there is something which is happening.”
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is currently streaming on Netflix.
