Sudheendra Kulkarni joins exclusive club of 'Ink' victims
After Advani’s controversial ‘secular’ Jinnah comments in Karachi in 2005, Kulkarni had faced a lot of flak for misleading the BJP stalwart.

New Delhi: Former ideologue of the BJP, Sudheendra Kulkarni is now in the league of ‘extraordinary’ men whose faces were blackened by the people who did not agree with them. Kulkarni, a former journalist and a communist was an aide to the Prime Minister AB Vajpayee between 1998-2004 and later to LK Advani. He was Advani’s election war room in-charge in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.

After Advani’s controversial ‘secular’ Jinnah comments in Karachi in 2005, Kulkarni had faced a lot of flak for misleading the BJP stalwart. Miffed over his leader Advani being ‘sidelined’ in the party by Narendra Modi, Kulkarni started distancing himself from the BJP. After the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he completely disappeared from the political scene of New Delhi.

In the past, he has worked as a national secretary of the BJP twice. An IIT Bombay graduate, Kulkarni hails from Karnataka and lives in Mumbai. He was also the editor of the now defunct ‘Blitz’.

He has now joined an exclusive club of ‘illustrious’ figures whose faces were blackened by ink-throwers in the recent past. The chairman of Sahara India Pariwar Subrato Roy Sahara’s face was blackened outside the Supreme Court a day before he was sent to jail in connection with a financial scam. Sahara has been in jail since March 2014.

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has also been a victim of ink-throwing. His one-time colleague Professor Yogendra Yadav also faced an ink-thrower at a press conference held at New Delhi’s Constitution Club.

Another former leader of the AAP Prashant Bhushan was also attacked by a gang called Bhagat Singh Krantikari Sena at his lawyers chambers opposite the Supreme Court. He was repeatedly punched in the face.

The hardline Hindutva leader and Sri Rama Sene chief Pramod Muthalik’s face was also blackened by an ink-thrower at a function.

In 2009, the then Union Home Minister P Chidambaram faced a shoe thrower at a press conference in New Delhi. The shoe-thrower journalist Jarnail Singh is now an AAP MLA in Delhi.

Former union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar was also repeatedly slapped by an angry young man at a function in New Delhi.
