State government staff to get 7 per cent DA hike
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced a 7 per cent hike in the Dearness Allowance of government servants and teachers.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced a 7 per cent hike in the Dearness Allowance of government servants and teachers.

In a statement, she said the hike would benefit 18 lakh people. The hike would be extended to government employees, teachers in government and aided schools and pensioners.

“The Union government had ordered a 7 per cent increase in the DA paid to Central government staff. To reflect that, I am glad to say I have ordered a 7 per cent increase in the DA paid to State government employees and teachers,” said Jayalalithaa in a statement.

She said the hike would cost the state exchequer Rs 1,443.53 crore a year. “Government servants and teachers are critical to the functioning of the state. They are the spine of the government. I believe this DA hike will motivate government staff to serve the people more enthusiastically and effectively,” she said.

Jayalalithaa added that the hike in DA would be effective from July 1, and would be disbursed to the beneficiaries soon.

The move will benefit administrative employees, staff of local administration bodies, teachers at government-run and government-aided schools, revenue department staff, anganwadi and nutritious meal workers, pensioners, family pensioners and all other categories who draw DA from the State government.

Staff unions organisations representing government employees like Graduate Teachers Association, Tamil Nadu Higher Secondary School Vocational Teachers Kazhagam, Tamil Nadu Physical Education Teachers and Directors Association, thanked CM on Friday, for the hike in DA.
