THIRUVANANTHAPURAM : Malankara Social Services Society, the social welfare wing of the Malankara Syrian Catholic Church, is organising a Srothas Social Science Congress on December 30 and 31 at Pattom St Mary’s Higher Secondary School here.'Overall development based on social justice’ is the theme of the Science Congress. The Science Congress is being organised as part of the silver jubilee celebrations of Malankara Social Services Society.The Science Congress will discuss various issues faced by farmers, fishermen, unorganised artisans, workers in traditional sector like coir, cashew and handloom, migrant labourers and those below the poverty line.Finance Minister K M Mani will inaugurate the Srothas Science Congress on December 30 at 10 a.m. Archbishop Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, who is also the president of Malankara Social Services Society, will preside over.Former Chairman of the fourth State Finance Commission M A Oommen, Kannur University Vice- Chancellor P K Michael Tharakan, Planning Board Member G Vijayaraghavan and Caritas India executive director Fr Varghese Mattamana will present papers. Rev Samuel Mar Irenios will deliver the welcome speech.Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma will inaugurate the valedictory of the silver jubilee celebrations on January 2 at the same venue at 10 p.m. Feast of the Heavenly Patron of Baselios Cleemis Catholicos will also be inaugurated on the occasion. Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph will inaugurate the Srothas Development Mission. Thiruvananthapuram Mayor K Chandrika and K Muraleedharan MLA will also attend.
